How to review your charity’s website
Have you noticed; these days we talk about social media much more than we talk about websites? In fact, it seems like websites have taken a back seat, BUT your website is a key part of your marketing, communication, and fundraising infrastructure.
The aim of your social media is to drive people to action and the action often occurs on your website. Your website is the only online medium you own, and have control over, so you need to invest it in.
So, if you work in a charity, how is your website performing?
Here is a list of simple questions to ask yourself:
Website clarity
- Who is using your website? What do your stats look like? How many people visit your site? What are your most popular pages? How long do people spend on your website? How long does it take to load your website?
- Is your content tailored to those groups?
- Is your overall mission clear? Can a visitor get a clear idea of what you do in a few seconds?
- Do you paint the best picture of your charity and what you do?
Content
- Is the content easy to read, short and succinct?
- Is there a clear call to action? I.e. do people know what you want them to do on your website?
- Do you have a clear About section?
- Are you portraying your human-ness (i.e. not just a company, but personalising your organisation)?
- Do you capture people by your storytelling?
- Do you motivate people to support you?
- Is it easy to find your website? What SEO key words do you need to include in your pages?
- Are you proud of your website?
Design
- Does your design help or hinder your charity?
- Are there great photos that complement your brand and narrative?
- Is the design perfectly linked to your branding?
- Does the design make it easy to navigate the site?
Usability
- Is it easy for people to donate?
- Is your back-end easy to use?
- Is your site map clear and easy to follow?
- Do you have links to your social media?
- Is it accessible for your audience?
There are so many other questions we could delve into, but this is a good start. I’d love to know if these help you with your website and as always, if you need a hand, please send me an email.
